Lamaze classes

Lamaze isn’t a breathing method, and it isn’t your mother’s childbirth class.

Lamaze is a philosophy, a way of thinking about birth that increases a woman’s confidence in her ability to give birth.  It is a way to experience childbirth as a normal, natural, life-changing experience.  Yes, you will learn ways to manage and avoid pain during your labor.  But most importantly, you’ll learn how to have a healthy and safe birth for yourself and for your baby.

Lamaze is not limited to couples only as some other methods are.  Lamaze is geared to the needs of all women who are pregnant.  Classes provide the knowledge that women need for the childbearing year regardless of how they arrived at this stage of life.

Lamaze is welcoming to women who are considering an epidural.  Information is provided on the risks, benefits, and alternatives to many birth interventions, and then parents are free to use this information to decide what is right for themselves and their babies.

Group classes are taught one weeknight a week for 5 weeks, for a total of 12 hours of comprehensive childbirth education.  There is a minimum and a maximum number of students who can attend, so it is sensible to enroll as soon as possible to ensure your seat.  If a class series does not receive the minimum number of students necessary by the class beginning date, you will be contacted and offered a seat in a later class or a private 3-hour workshop for the same price.

Classes are taught in a private home in Madison and the address will be supplied upon registration.

Rates for 2013 group classes will be $260 if you register at least a week in advance, $285 thereafter.  Late registration (after a class series has begun) will be accepted at the usual rate if space permits.

Included in the price of the class is your workbook, snacks, a goody bag, and access to phone support during your birth and the postpartum period if desired (meaning you can call at any time for information and encouragement.)

To reserve your seat in class, you may choose to either pay in advance or mail in a non-refundable deposit of $50 with the balance due at the first class.
